Half term is here! No more school runs for a week, however…. the kids need entertaining! And this is where we can help, below are some fun activities for the kids to do during Feburary half term.
Make your own playdough, very simple to make and gives hours of fun throughout the week. A free printable of the recipe is available by clicking on the printable link above. The children can use the playdough to make different creations such as bugs and minibeasts check out our creations here: Bugs Playdough
You could also provide the children with cutters, forks, spoons, a pencil, and a rolling pin for them discover making different marks and shapes in the playdough.
Add glitter whilst making the playdough and experiment making different colours using food colouring.
2. Spring Mobile
This cute and colourful mobile will look lovely hanging up in your home and should keep them occupied for a while using few materials around the home.
Click on this link to found out how to make it : Spring Mobile
3. Space Activities
Send the kids to the moon with our Space themed activities. We made our very own outfit including an astronaut's helmet and a rocket backpack out of two bottles! Then send them on a space mission to find some moon rocks! All instructions and activities are at : Space Activities Page
4. Colours and Shapes Fun
These activities are great for little ones to develop their colours and shapes or build on what they already know. Our favourite activities are the foam shapes window and water activity and the matching coloured bricks to a well known game board 😉 check them out here Colours and Shapes
5. Junk Modelling
Provide the children with lots of different sized and shaped boxes, tubes, pots, paper, materials and some glue and sticky tape and encourage them to make whatever they like whether its a boat, a train, a robot or a castle! The ideas of what they could create are endless. Place a messy plastic mat on the table or floor and don't forget to roll sleeves up and aprons 🙂
6. Rainy days!
Plenty of rainy days at the moment and if you find you've been trapped in and need some fresh air don't let the rain stop you from letting the kids have a run around!
Put on your wet weather gear and go splashing in puddles! Hold competitions on who can find the biggest puddle and make the biggest splash.
But don't forget in the words of our favourite little pig "You must wear your wellies to jump in muddy puddles!"
Here are some great ideas for painting fun this half term and all you need is an apron, protect the table (perhaps use a tray) materials to paint with and lots of coloured paint.
- potato printing
- sponge painting
- blow painting with a straw
- bubble painting ( just add washing up liquid and water in paint blow bubbles into the paint and place the paper on the top)
- wax crayon painting ( draw a wax crayon picture then paint over it with runny watered down paint)
- finger/hand painting
- Marble painting ( on a tray place a piece of paper and a blob of paint on top. roll marbles by tilting the tray to see the paint make lots of lines)
Whatever you end up doing this half term we hope you have fun! we love to see what fun you have been having so if you have a lovely photo you would like us to upload of what you have been doing please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
